This book is the first in Sherry Thomas’s Lady Sherlock Holmes series. Thomas is also a bestselling author of historical romance, contemporary romance, and YA fantasy.
The Holmes books have romance elements, but these are really mysteries. I so enjoyed this strong-willed and quick-witted heroine, her brooding admirer, and the investigator who works with Miss Holmes to solve a trio of murders that have cast suspicions on her family. There is also some terrific commentary on the status of women in Victorian society that is, unfortunately, evergreen. Truly a fabulous read—one of my favorites of the year.
